Let’s Get Techy With QSRs
Technology, Industry Trends
2024.05.07
From clipboards, cash registers, and manual tasks, to apps, POS systems, and robotic fryers, a new definition of fast food has emerged. And it’s one that’s defined by technology advancements for elevating the customer experience. Every task is expected to be faster—faster ordering, faster payment, faster prep. “The future of the restaurant industry lies in its ability to integrate technology not as a mere tool, but as an integral part of the dining experience,” Meredith Sandland and Carl Orsbourn, hosts of ‘The Digital Restaurant’ podcast.
In today’s tech-driven world, if you don’t embrace it, you fall behind. This has never been truer than for quick-service restaurants. QSR brands that recognize food technology isn’t a trend, but the future of how restaurants will evolve and succeed will reap the rewards. While over three-fourths of operators feel technology gives them a competitive edge, many are concerned about not having enough time to figure out how technology and AI-driven tasks fit within the daily demands of running their business.
Putting tech to the test…here are some tips on how technology can work hardest in foodservice:
- Let’s get personal! Many chains are already using mobile ordering apps and self-service kiosks. Adding an AI-powered menu recommendation component will let customers engage deeper with the brand in a meaningful way.
- Don’t forget the humans! Technology works wonders for the food and beverage world, but it will never replace the magic people bring to the counter or drive-thru. Great service, a genuine smile, and a real connection with your community are what keep customers coming back.
- Be a watchdog! Don’t let AI run wild without checking its throughput. Back of house, tech should improve challenges such as speed, efficiency, quality, inventory management, and consistency. And for the best outputs, check your data often and don't be afraid to use the results.
Think of technology as your team’s behind-the-scenes helper. QSRs that use AI and tech can focus more on what matters most—happy guests and great experiences.
